Im Brabanter Berkel-Enschot fanden französische Trappistenmönche Zuflucht. Im Schafstall, der in ein provisorisches Kloster umgewandelt wurde, wurde am 5. März 1881 die erste heilige Messe gefeiert. Deswegen ist dieses Datum das Gründungsdatum der Abtei. Seit 1884 wird das Trappistenbier gebraut. Die Mönche der Abtei sind der Ursprung dieses Bieres. 1928 wurde dann das “La Trappe Blond” Bier vorgestellt, ein blondes Bier mit geringer Fermentation und 4% Alkohol.
